Aakarshan 2024 Indigenous Art Competition

On 8th October, 2024, DPS Kamptee Road, #Nagpur hosted the much-anticipated inter-school art competition, 'Aakarshan: Many Indias, Vernacular Expressions 2024'. The event, held at the school premises, witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 180 students hailing from Nagpur and its surrounding regions. The competition aimed to highlight the rich cultural heritage of India through various vernacular art forms, encouraging students to explore indigenous expressions.
The event was graced by Dr. Alka Pande, a distinguished art historian, author, and curator, who served as the Chief Guest. With over three decades of profound contributions to the art world, Dr. Pande has been a beacon of inspiration for many. In her address, she spoke about the importance of preserving vernacular art and how these forms represent the soul of India’s diverse cultural landscape. Dr. Pande’s presence elevated the event, offering students a unique opportunity to be inspired by her deep knowledge and passion for the arts. The Guest of Honour, Mr. Gopal Ramchandra Betawar, a celebrated visual artist, curator and cultural administrator, brought his wealth of experience to the event. Ms. Yogeeta Umalkar, Principal extended a warm welcome to the esteemed Chief Guest and distinguished dignitaries who graced the occasion.
The driving force behind the success of Aakarshan was Ms. Tulika Kedia, President and Pro Vice-Chairperson, DPS Kamptee Road and MIHAN, Nagpur, an ardent patron of the arts. Her visionary approach to the event sought to provide a platform where students could unleash their creativity through the rich tapestry of traditional Indian art forms. Through her unwavering commitment to supporting Indigenous art and artisans, she ensured that Aakarshan transcended the realm of competition, becoming a transformative educational experience that deepened students' connection to India’s cultural heritage.
